Sample Ritual – A House Blessing for Marcia

Gathering of the Guests – Opening exercise for participants to bring themselves to the ritual and become present to the event

• Welcoming remarks with an introduction and rundown of the ritual
  
• Marcia speaks about her home, how she feels about her home, and about her hopes and intentions for the ritual
  
• Each guest names her/himself and answers the question “What does home mean to you?” or “What memories do you have from Marcia’s home?”
  

Cleansing of house – Marcia and the guests proceed from room to room. Marcia explains what she would like to cleanse each particular room of, and symbolically sweeps it away. Guests also participate in the cleansing.

• Master Bedroom – Release grief and sorrow of son’s illness
• Son’s room – Release anxiety, nervousness, fear, and restlessness
• Office – Release questioning and doubt over work
• Dining Room / Kitchen – Release loss of connection, remove walls and barriers that separate the family from friends
• Living Room – Release disconnection with husband

After each room is cleansed, the entire group will follow Marcia to the back door of the house, where she will make a final, symbolic sweep of everything she wants to cleanse out the door.

Blessing into house – Marcia will go to the front door of the house and invite the blessings into the home. The group will then proceed to each room individually as Marcia calls her hopes and desires into the room. Each guest will also offer her blessing

• Master Bedroom – Marcia desires love, peacefulness, and many night of laying in bed with husband, laughing and talking.
  • Marica will leave fresh fruit on the bed that she will bless, and that she and her husband will share later that night
• Son’s room – Marcia desires healing and protection
  • Marcia will prepare an sachet that guests put healing herbs into as they offer their blessing. The sachet will then be hung on the wall.
• Workroom – time for stillness, and time for listening to herself
  • Marcia will anoint herself with essential oils that can be used again to make connection
• Dining Room / Kitchen – Marcia desires many celebration of life, and joyful time with friends
  • Marcia will make a toast to the sweetness of life
• Living Room – Marcia desires to make space for another child, and infuse the room with a sense of family connection
  • Marcia will light a set of candles in this room as a symbol for her desires

Closing

• Guests have the opportunity to gift Marcia with goodies for her newly cleansed and blessed home
  
• Marcia thanks guests for joining her in this ritual
  
• Food and Socializing
